“PEOPLE STARTED CALLING AND WANTED TO BUY THE MIRACLE OIL”

Marina Elisabeth Engervik (30) from Båtsfjord struggled with atopic eczema and missed good skincare products. She made her own oil, and now she can live off the Marina Miracle skincare line.

What is your concept about?

– I was born with atopic eczema and have always had sensitive skin. In my late teens, I also developed acne, in addition to eczema and dry skin. After many unsuccessful attempts with traditional skin care products, I decided to solve the problem myself. I found that some vegetable oils, herbs and plant extracts could theoretically help my skin, but I couldn’t find any products with all the ingredients. So I created my own formula. That was the start of Marina Miracle, a natural and organic skin care line developed and made in Norway. All products are vegan. Today, Marina Miracle products are used by professional skin care therapists, and they are also sold in our online store for home use.

When did you decide to invest?

– When the first facial oil made my skin healthy and beautiful, many people asked what I had done. I told people about the oil and gave it as a gift to several people with skin problems. It helped everyone and the word spread. People started calling and wanting to buy the “miracle oil”. That’s when I realized that I had created a product that was needed. The next day I quit my job and started Marina Miracle.

Is this something you can live off of?

– Yes, it's wonderful when what you're passionate about can be your livelihood. Recently, my husband Martin quit his job to work full-time with me. In addition, I've had a full-time employee for several years, and my sister works as extra help. Marina Miracle also has franchises in six countries in Europe, and in total we are 14 people in the team.

Any tips for others with an entrepreneurial budding?

– When you start a business, it's always best to have two people. It's so important to have a supporter, someone who can help you and be there for you. I would never have managed this without my husband. Also, be positive and think well of yourself, but at the same time, you have to be a fighter with a goal. My most important advice is not to just start something to make a lot of money. You have to have a passion that goes deeper than that. Start with something you really care about and feel strongly about. Then you can go far.
