Interview - Probiotic Skincare

Marina Miracle was founded by Marina Engervik, who, after suffering from atopic eczema her entire life and struggling with sensitive skin and acne, decided to take matters into her own hands and develop her own, world-unique organic products. Many around her called her first product Herbal Face Oil the miracle oil, which resulted in the brand name Marina Miracle.

Since probiotics are currently a hot topic to discuss when it comes to skincare, and many of the products in the Marina Miracle series contain active probiotics, we took the opportunity to focus on this when we interviewed her and Martin Engervik at Green Beauty Day this year.

A little quick background on probiotics is that they are live bacteria that can adapt to every skin type and are especially good for you who:

How do the probiotics in your products work and how can you ensure they are active/live?

Probiotics are a fantastic ingredient, and together with an experienced chemist, we have succeeded in developing our own probiotic culture in our products using fermented ingredients. Probiotic skincare requires careful formulation as they have a very high instability. Through laboratory tests and the knowledge of chemists, after a year of research, we succeeded in developing our first product with the active probiotic culture. To ensure that the probiotic culture is alive, the natural preservative in the products is synchronized with the probiotic. We also work with air-free packaging since oxygen is another factor that probiotic skincare is very sensitive to.

Where do we find probiotics in your products?

In the cleansing and make-up removal - Sweet and Creamy Oil Cleanser - the active probiotics come from fermented alfalfa, tomato and broccoli. When it comes to the face cream Acai Hydra Cream , there are probiotics from fermented acai, raspberry and nettle. The Rosehip Peeling Mask contains probiotics from fermented sugar.

Do you think probiotic skincare is a trend that is here to stay?

We certainly believe that the interest in probiotic skincare will grow even more over the years, but we hope that the focus is mainly on the fermented blend and the nutrition this provides for your skin. If you feed your own probiotics nutrition, they will flourish, and it is important to get the right culture for this to happen, as this will give your skin the optimal condition.

As we at Lewilyx have a strong focus on sustainability, we would also like to take this opportunity to ask how you work with this at Marina Miracle, both in connection with the production and packaging of your products.

When it comes to the production of our products, everything is produced below 40°, so we can preserve all the vitamins in them. We are also very careful with the ingredients and go for organically certified ingredients to the highest extent possible. We select the very best ingredients from different parts of the world and measure the quality of these in a laboratory in Germany. The same ingredient can have different performance and purity depending on where it is grown or produced, so we compare different options and go for the ones that give the best results.

When it comes to packaging, we have chosen to package the products in glass and airless bottles to increase the product's lifespan. The plastic in the airless bottle is unfortunately virgin plastic since the alternatives with bioplastic or recycled plastic are too soft. There are hard varieties of bioplastic, but the oil in the products unfortunately dissolves these materials. It means a lot to us to work in a sustainable way, which is why we constantly monitor developments in bioplastics so that we can offer even more sustainable alternatives in the future, without it hindering the function and durability of the product.

Marina's 3 best tips for healthy skin:

1. Be careful when washing your skin and use a good cleanser. It is important to have a good, gentle and gentle foundation for your skin to thrive. Sweet and Creamy Oil Cleanser is perfect for this. Use the cleanser in two rounds where the first part cleanses (makeup and dirt) and then you cleanse once more and let it work on the skin for about 1 minute before washing off.
2. So it is alpha and omega to provide the skin with plenty of moisture! Do this every morning and evening to get a nice balance in the skin. Hebal Face Oil contains both the necessary moisture base and the oil that binds moisture, so there is a sufficient moisture supplement here if you do not want to use facial toner. It is important to shake the face oil before use so that the moisture and oils mix.
3. Use our Rosehip Peeling Mask as a lip scrub! It will give you wonderfully soft lips with both enzyme peeling and chemical peeling in one.
