Marina's best tips for dry winter skin
January 24, 2021 – Martin Engervik
Most people experience dry skin in the winter because the cold air draws moisture out of the skin.
You may have experienced being outside for a while in freezing temperatures and when you come back inside, your skin feels tight and dry. Sometimes it gets so dry that it itches and flakes. But luckily there are things you can do to get your moisture back. Here are my 3 best tips for dealing with dry winter skin:
1. Use a face mask once a week
It is important to exfoliate dead skin cells from dry skin regularly. Otherwise, the products you use can become blocked and not penetrate the skin properly. So, the skin does not get enough moisture and feels dry even if you use a lot of product. Scrub the skin well at least once a week to avoid this. A Rosehip Peeling Mask is great for dry skin because it cleanses the pores and removes impurities without drying out the skin. Afterwards, the skin will be soft and ready for moisturizer. Try our Organic Muslin Cloth together with the mask for extra good effect!
2. Use a nourishing facial oil morning and night
Oils are great to use in the winter because they penetrate deep into the skin and the lipids in the oils strengthen and protect the skin barrier, making it more resistant to cold. Our facial oils provide lots of healthy fatty acids to the skin, which it needs extra of now in the winter. The oil is used every morning and evening after cleansing or a face mask.
TIP: Use Flower Berry Essence before applying the facial oil. This is a hydrating essence that can be used as a moisturizing serum before facial oil.
3. Give your skin an extra moisture boost
A moisturizing mask is a must when you have dry skin. I use Shea Hydration Mask as a night cream 2-3 nights a week and then I also sleep with the mask on. The mask contains hyaluronic acid which is a super moisturizer, probiotic juice of aloe vera, oats and green tea + high-quality shea butter and shea oil. So this really provides deep and effective moisture to the skin. This mask is popular in Finnmark, where it is super cold in the winter, because it provides such good moisture. This is a really good face mask for dry skin.
Read here how well the moisture mask works in Alta, where it can get up to minus 50 degrees !
